Why regularly maintain your air conditioning system?

Planned preventative air conditioning maintenance

There are many good reasons for taking out a preventative maintenance programme for your air conditioning system. However, the overriding benefit is that it will save you money in the long run. Regular maintenance should ultimately pay for itself in lower repair costs and more efficient operation.

Manufacturer’s warranty cover
Most newly installed air conditioning equipment comes with a manufacturer’s warranty of up to 5 years. Manufacturers do though insist on the routine maintenance of the equipment in order to validate their warranties. Without one in place, you could be invalidating your warranty and if something were to go wrong, you could face a large bill.

Prolongs your equipment life
Regular maintenance can identify issues early on before they become a problem. Just like you have your car serviced, your air conditioning system needs looking after too. Issues can be nipped in the bud, reducing the likelihood of breakdowns and costly repairs, prolonging the life of your equipment and saving you money in the long term.

Improved energy efficiency
Routine maintenance ensures that your system is working as efficiently as possible all year round. Your system becomes less efficient and reliable as it accumulates dust and dirt throughout the year, so regular maintenance keeps your running costs to a minimum.

Improves air quality
Air conditioning systems filter contaminants from the air before circulating clean air throughout a space. For this reason, it’s very important that filters and ducts are regularly cleaned, to minimize any potential health risks.

Statutory leak tests
Statutory leak testing and associated record keeping should be included as part of your maintenance programme in line with new F-gas regulations. The F-gas legislation, which was revised from 1st January 2015, made it the legal responsibility of equipment owners/operators to have air conditioning systems above a relatively small size leak tested at least once a year in order to reduce the possibility of environmental damage. The F-gas legislation lays down strict requirements for record keeping and operators are expected to keep full records for at least five years.
