Garden offices – how best to heat and cool efficiently?

Air conditioning for your garden office

Garden offices are increasingly popular, coming in all shapes and sizes from the simple wooden shed to ultramodern pods and cabins with large panels of bespoke glazing. For those who work or run their businesses from home, they provide a neat separation from the main house while still avoiding the dreaded commute!

A comfortable working environment can boost productivity and enhance wellbeing. If you use your garden office regularly, then you’ll need to consider how best to heat and cool your office to ensure year-round comfort.

Most modern garden offices are insulated. If not, this is your number one priority! Insulation will help your office stay cool in the summer and retain heat in the winter, thereby minimising energy usage and reducing your running costs.

Direct forms of heating such as simple electric radiators or more desirable electric underfloor heating are often installed in garden offices. Unfortunately, these are expensive and inefficient to run when compared to a modern air conditioning system (air source heat pump).

In fact, a professionally installed air conditioning system, when compared to direct electric heating or gas, can lower your electricity bills by as much as 30-50%. If you use your garden office all day every day, you could find that your new system pays for itself within 5 years in reduced running costs. And of course, an air conditioning system also gives you the option to use it in cooling in the summer months to lower the temperature and humidity.

Simple split type air conditioning systems are ideal for garden offices, typically consisting of an indoor wall mounted unit and an outdoor unit positioned behind the cabin. Manufacturer, Mitsubishi Electric, has recently launched its sophisticated and stylish M-Series range. Available in a variety of colours and using the latest R32 refrigerant, they offer superior energy efficiencies too.

And that’s not all. Businesses can claim Enhanced Capital Allowance on the installation costs (equipment selection dependent) and residential customers pay only 5% VAT. Equipment manufacturers also offer various finance packages to help spread the cost.

Following the successful completion of one of our recent garden office projects, our customer was delighted with the results:

“Very professional and great customer service. I would recommend this company to anyone. The engineer that fitted the unit was extremely professional, tidy, punctual and couldn’t do enough for me to make sure I was happy with the work.”
